The Carroll County fair is held every August in Schell Park, Milledgeville, IL. The fair is a five-day event that has a farm animal competition, nightly show, games, amusement rides, and various food and craft venders. The fairgrounds are maintained by a group of volunteers, who also make up the board of directors. There are only a handful of paid staff. All fair decisions are voted on by attending board members at monthly meetings. For several months leading up to the fair, Thursday night work nights are a time where available volunteers do various grounds keep, painting, maintenance, cleaning, construction, etc. to get the fair into show shape. I come with a pair of work gloves, and a bottle of water, and assist wherever I can. Tasks are posted the previous week, so you can come properly prepared, dressed, or with supplies.

Since April 1963 several members (Lions!) in the Chadwick area have volunteered their time
and talents to serving others. Some of the service activities are the planting of trees in town,as
well as providing eye glasses for needy people. Several times during the year we install, and
remove the United States flags along the highway and in the cemetery. Lions provide, install
and remove Christmas decorations on Main street. Additionally we create fruit baskets at
Christmas time and deliver them to the single elderly in the community.
We also contribute to Lions of Illinois Foundation to support statewide projects such as the
Hearing and Glaucoma units, which come to Chadwick for free testing. The Center for Sight
and Sound, Rockford is another organization we help support.
In addition to our monthly meetings, our building is available for private use for families or other
organizations in the area. It is also given for use as the polling place. When we sponsor the
blood drive for the Red Cross, it is held in the Legion/Lions building too.
During the year we have several fund raising events. The major one is the food stand at the
Carroll County Fair which is operated from 7:00 in the morning until closing time. We have
pork chop bbq and pork sandwich fund raisers during the year as well as spaghetti suppers.
We have a snack stand when we host the Little League All Stars baseball games in July.
To all ‘Impact’ students, we will make available opportunities to help us in both fund raising and
service activities. If we have failed to list an event on the Impact calendar, please call
815-499-5161 to offer to joins us with a project in which you are interested.

Officially established in 1857, Sterling has been a city of hard-working people, deeply rooted in local industry since that time. Originally home to a few mills powered by the river, the industrial base grew with the country and the small City of Sterling soon became the Hardware Capital of the World. Today, much of that history is still with us, but the City has matured and diversified.
The community is now a strong blend of industry, commercial and retail business and residential areas. In fact, Sterling has become a regional retail hub.
The City employees volunteer their time to promote family oriented community events, all events are free to the public and sponsored by local businesses and the City itself.

The “Church” is the assembly of people God has called out for special service. In particular, this special service is the sharing of the good news that God, the creator of the universe, is present and that God does love you, cares about you, wants to play a major role in your life, and desires you to play a major role in the building up of His kingdom here and now. - Pastor David Schweppe.

Illinois Republicans have had a special calling since our birth as a political party. Following in the footsteps of Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, Everett Dirksen and Henry Hyde, these are the beliefs that unite us:
Advancing our founding father’s principles of freedom, opportunity, and limited government;
Caring for the dignity and value of every individual;
Providing strong leaders who serve both State and Country with honor and distinction.
These principles form the foundation of both an agenda for America and the platform for our party. They point us toward reform of government, upholding timeless values, and a renewal of our national purpose.
We commit ourselves to the values that strengthen our culture and sustain our nation: faith, family, personal responsibility, and the dignity of every human life. We believe in a welcoming society in which all who yearn for individual freedom have a place. We are the party of freedom and advancement for all.
Our party welcomes individuals who share our common beliefs while having deeply held, yet differing views. Diversity brings strength. We commit to resolve our differences with civility, trust, and mutual respect.
We celebrate our party’s best traditions; the end of slavery, homestead grants, land grant colleges, civil rights and protecting life. We believe in service to the common good – and that good is not common unless shared.
