Event Description:
Support requested for planting flags (small 18" flags on wood dowels) on over 1,000 graves prior to Memorial Day. If enough volunteers turn out it usually only takes an hour and a half.
Special Notes:
Wear attire appropriate for the weather, especially shoes because grass is often wet.
Must be able to speak out (up) because a Caller will call out a name and volunteers look for the grave. Once it has been identified and the volunteer places the flag next to the stone then the Caller needs to hear feed back. To keep things flowing, several Callers call out 3 or 4 names at a time and just keep rolling. We divide the cemetery up into 4 sections so four groups head out from the maintenance shed (41.814674, -89.963090) and if done early, they join in another group.
